Bitbucket is Atlassian's Git repository platform for hosting and managing code with built-in collaboration tools. Student developers and teachers can sign up with an academic email address to receive free unlimited private repositories and unlimited academic collaborators at no cost.

To qualify, register using your academic email domain. Bitbucket automatically grants an academic license if your email domain matches their list of accredited academic institutions. If your institution isn't recognized, you can request an academic license directly through Atlassian's form and they will manually verify your status. Once approved, you get unlimited private repositories to organize code for classes, assignments, and labs, plus the ability to add unlimited peers and instructors as collaborators with granular access controls.
